The annual Camp Oven Cook-Off at the Moonambel Recreation Reserve was once again a culinary delight! Each year, the standard of food seems to climb higher, and this year was no exception. Participants were judged on Creativity, Taste, and Overall Presentation, and the results were nothing short of sensational.

The fires were lit early in the morning, throughout the day the aroma of ingredients filled the air. Karl led a convoy of 4WDs on a morning adventure (details of that trip to come, that’s a whole other story!), while the camp kitchen came alive with energy and anticipation.

Russell wasn’t leaving anything to chance — he spent the entire day perfecting his dish. Meals had to be plated and ready by 5:30 sharp to be judged by Morri and Leanne. Ever so professional and thorough in their judication!

We were treated to an incredible spread, including bao buns, dampers, slow-cooked pork, “chickolicious” creations, melted camembert with chillies, hearty stews, lamb shanks and more. Every dish told a story, and every bite was a winner in its own right.

Winners on the day:

  • Best Overall: Russell Thorsen
  • Best Main: Sheridan Chandler
  • Best Dessert: Layla Krueger
  • People’s Choice: Phil Rattle

A huge thank you to our judges, Morri and Leanne, for their keen taste buds and fair deliberation. Events like these remind us that good food, good friends, and a warm campfire are the perfect recipe for a great weekend!
