Limestone Coast Trip Melbourne Cup Weekend
Meeting at Eight Mile Creek Campground on Friday
This trip will be a trip to see how far along the beach we can get, it will be travelling on the beach then off the beach to Carpenter Rocks.
Saturday: Getting on the beach at Eight Mile, driving to Port MacDonnell where will drive through town, walk out onto the Pier and look at the Lighthouse. Leaving town we will be taking Smiths road, left at Cape Douglas road to Cape Douglas. Driving back on the sand to Shelley beach, back to Cape Douglas and around to Point Douglas. We enter the Point Douglas National Park and drive the Rugged Coast line of the Limestone Coast, driving on the edge of 100m cliffs. Finding camp along the Coast line.
Sunday: Leaving the Point Douglas National Park onto the beach and soft sand to Nene Valley, back off the beach and driving to Blackfellows Cave. Looking at the Caves. On to Pelican Point road to Carpenter Rocks, we will take the inland track to camp on the beach.
Monday: Driving the inland tracks to Southend and driving all the off chute tracks to the Giant Sand dune for a play, see who can make it up to the Top. Finding camp along the way before Southend.
Tuesday: Leaving Southend, heading for home back to Bendigo.
Trip Limit: 10 vehicles
Fuel: Nelson or 24hour at Port MacDonnell
Vehicle Requirements: 2 inch lift, All terrain tyres, Recovery Points (front and rear), Winch. Your vehicle needs to be in good working order.
Vehicle Accessories: Recovery equipment, Maxtracs or similar, shovel, first aid kit, Air Compressor
Camping style: Moving camp tent or swags.
Supplies: Food and water for 5 days, some supplies will be available at Port MacDonnell.
Note: There will be very soft sand in sections, so a lot of Recovery’s will be happening.
